The kroil is to seep into the front trunion on Craig's AK, which has seemed to sieze up and refuse to allow the barrel to either set itself fully, or be removed. It's probable that one of the rivets inside the front trunion got crushed a little off and I just didn't notice it prior to installation. One solution is to take the drill press and demil the front trunion, then press the barrel out as usual, redo all the rivets, and then press the barrel back in. That's not entirely out of the question, but naturally I would prefer to save myself all that hassle (not to mention most of a $9 bag of rivets) by backing out the barrel and inspecting what went wrong, then fixing it and re-pressing the barrel.On a happier note, the Magpul MIAD is seriously nice. The stock AR grip is fine in a rifle, but it leaves much to be desired in a carbine, especially if you have large hands. However, it's not really as adjustable as Magpul may like you to believe - once a set of panels goes on, it takes nearly an act of divine intervention to get it back off. My left thumb has a nice deep slice in it from what happened when the slim front panel DID start to come loose... but getting the slim panel off was worth it. I installed the extra thick front and the angled (for gloved hands) trigger well cover, as well as the extra thick rear panel with the rear that curves up and fills in some of the gap behind the rear receiver. The end result is a very nicely contoured, ergonomic grip which seems perfectly at home being held in one hand. The stock grip felt just slightly off when one-handing the M4gery, but the Magpul leaves it feeling very nicely balanced. If I were to be allowed to have one and only one assault-weapon-status rifle (i.e. legally able to have detachable mags, pistol grips, etc), I believe the MIAD would be installed on it. |
